In 2023, a high school student from Australia reached out to Top IB Tutors to acquire a IB Maths Analysis and Approaches tutoring. He was very clear that his goal was a 7. We asked Max to share his experience of getting tutoring with Top IB Tutors. Read on to see why Max would recommend a Maths tutor for anyone complete Analysis and Approaches.
What subjects did you receive tutoring from Apex Tuition Australia?
I received tutoring for Maths Analysis and Approaches SL in both Year 11 and Year 12. Every so often my tutor would also help me with Chemistry, particularly my IAs.
Why did you apply to get tutoring?
With the intense content load of IB I was struggling to keep up. I was usually a strong Maths student but started to see some weaknesses as the content got harder. I thought Maths would make the most sense to get a tutor for due to the type of content. I was very open with my tutor, letting him know from the first session that I wanted to get a 7.
What did you do in your tutoring sessions?
Every week, I would save questions that I found difficult and would go through them in detail with my tutor. This worked well because we didn’t waster time on content I already knew. We only focussed on content that was difficult or content that I didn’t understand.
I really appreciated being able to spend more time on these hard problems and having the chance to go a bit deeper.
Did you see any improvements?
I definitely did. At the start of Year 11, on subject tests, I was averaging a 5 or 6. By the end of Year 12 on any practice exam I did I would always get a 7.
Then on the final exam, I was able to also get a 7. My tutor also helped me to get a 7 on my Maths and Chemistry IAs as well.

Were you satisfied with your tutor?
Absolutely, I had an excellent experience working with my tutor. He had a solid plan for me right from the start and truly understood my goal. I appreciated that he always believed that I could get a 7, even at the start when it was not looking so likely. Without his guidance, I’d likely have spent much more time struggling with Maths and might not have reached that score.
I would definitely recommend partnering with a Maths tutor. Even if you're already a strong student, the extensive content in the IB can be overwhelming. The extra support, advice, and strategies I gained from my tutor proved to be incredibly beneficial.
